Movement. Culture. Service.
February was a powerful month for The L1 Foundation as we celebrated Black History Month and Heart Health Month through wellness programming, cultural experiences, and community outreach.
Throughout the month, we hosted events that encouraged movement, education, and service while bringing our community together around a shared mission: building a stronger and healthier Houston.
From food drives and health screenings to cultural dance and community fitness, February demonstrated the power of community when people come together for a purpose.
Souper Bowl of Caring: Fighting Hunger Together
This February, The L1 Foundation proudly participated in the Souper Bowl of Caring, a national initiative dedicated to addressing food insecurity during Super Bowl season.
Through our partnership with Bastian Elementary and Whidby Elementary as part of the Houston ISD campaign, we collected food donations throughout the month at Level One Fitness.
Thanks to the generosity of our members and community supporters, 40 pallets of food were collected to support Houston ISD school families, helping provide essential food resources to households experiencing food insecurity.
This effort reflects our commitment to ensuring that community wellness includes access to nutritious food and essential resources.
Heart Health Month: Free Community Health Screenings
In recognition of American Heart Month, The L1 Foundation partnered with VitaBoost to host free community health screenings to promote preventative care and heart health awareness.
During two screening events, over 40 individuals received health screenings conducted by the VitaBoost team, providing participants with important insights into their overall wellness.
Screenings included:
• Blood pressure checks
• Heart health education
• Preventative wellness resources
These screenings empower individuals to know their numbers and take proactive steps toward protecting their health.
Black History Bootcamp
To celebrate Black History Month, The L1 Foundation hosted our Black History Bootcamp, bringing together community members for a high-energy workout focused on strength, empowerment, and community connection.
The event welcomed 100 participants, creating a powerful atmosphere of motivation and celebration.
In addition to the workout, the event featured wellness vendors and community engagement, highlighting the importance of supporting Black-owned businesses and community-centered health initiatives.
African Dance Class: Movement Is Medicine
The month concluded with an incredible African Dance Class led by Tracie Jackson of Intuitive African Dance & Drum Culture.
Participants experienced the rhythm, storytelling, and cultural expression of traditional African dance through an energizing full-body workout.
The class welcomed 37 participants, creating a vibrant space where culture, movement, and community came together.
African dance reminds us that wellness is not only physical—it is also deeply connected to culture, history, and community expression.
Step in the Name of Love Fundraiser
One of the most joyful moments of the month came during our Step in the Name of Love line dance fundraiser, which brought the community together through music, movement, and celebration.
The event raised $500 in support of The L1 Foundation’s community programming, helping fund future initiatives focused on health, wellness, and outreach.
Moments like these demonstrate how fun, community-centered events can also create meaningful impact.
